Someday when I have time for a life again, I want to get back into photography. I got a nice digital camera about a year ago and didn’t even have a chance to use it until I went to Ireland last July. Ridiculous. Manual photography is really where it’s at though. Getting hands on with your photos gives you the chance to really connect with them. You not only have to find the perfect photo, you also have to develop the film (which high school photo classes taught me is much harder and more time-consuming than I had anticipated), work on perfecting the contrast/lighting/etc, and then finally developing the pictures themselves. It’s a lot more personal than futzing around on Photoshop for 10-15 seconds. I like the look of film photos a lot better than digital ones, too. I nearly cried when Polaroid officially stopped producing their film. Well, until I can afford an apartment with a dark room, I found this sweet tutorial on how to make digital photos look like toy camera pictures:
