Gabu

I looooooooove knitting and crocheting.  I know it just fuels my reputation as a grandma trapped in a teenager’s body, but whatever.  One downside to these crafts is the lack of patterns that people actually want or use.  Apparently these pattern makers feel Pierrot Hooded Capes, Jean Embellishments, and Old Skool Headbands are super hawt.  (Anyone who spells “skool” with a k is totes hip.  Obvs.)  Sick joke.  I’ve found myself spending $20+ on knitting books with one or two usable patterns.  The rest would either make me feel like a senile old woman or yarn monster.

Vegan Sugar Cookies
Written on Dec 27 2009

There are a lot of vegans in the indie music world.  Not so much in the regular world.  I love baking for people, especially boys in bands, but I never know what the freak to make for them.  When I think of vegan food I picture tofu tofu tofu.  Ew.  No milk, eggs, or butter?  I might as well spend the rest of my life nibbling on cat grass.  JUST KIDDING!  My cousin Michelle pointed me to this recipe from john&kristie.  Yes, it does contain tofu (!!!WOAHWOAHWOAH!!!).  Shocking.  I know.  BUT!  It’s tofu cream cheese.  How can you go wrong with cream cheese?  These cookies are so good.  I’m not a vegan, but I could sit around and eat these all day.  Personally, I’m not a big sugar person, so I’ve actually made them for myself without the icing and they’re just as good.

This recipe has been a huge hit with this band Ludo, whom I am halfway obsessed with.  The first time I ever made the cookies for them, they were so happy they made a video about it.  I make up about 15,000+ of the 16,000+ views.  The dough is perfect for cookie cutters, so of course I got creative with pacmen, pacman ghosts, dinosaurs, and sea creatures.

Here’s the original recipe, a few of my edits, and a couple pictures of my cookies:

Homemade Shampoo
Written on Dec 27 2009

Got a little crafty when Kathleen came to visit a couple weekends ago. She loves this store Lush, which is high quality but super expensive. SO! We decided to make some homemade shampoo using this Instructable. Kathleen used the dandruff recipe, and I did the soothing chamomile one. I’m bent on making my hair red again without dying it, so I added some lemon juice (chamomile tea and lemon juice are known to lighten hair, and lemon juice often adds a little red kick to it, too). Lemon juice dries out hair really fast, though. I just got mine trimmed and my lady had to cut off like two inches of crap. Lesson learned: if you intend to use lemon juice on your hair every other day, make sure you use something to counter act it. I ended up adding some extra jojoba oil to my shampoo which, as I found out later, makes it suds up really nicely when shaken. Otherwise it’s really liquidy and can easily get into your eyes.

After I shook it up  Pre-shaking up

Mental note: when using homemade shampoo containing large amounts of lemon juice, try to avoid getting it in your eyes.
